Can you imagine a world WITHOUT Republicans?
I remember the disappointment I felt in 2008 when Prop. 8 passed. It was in direct conflict with the victory I felt when Obama was elected, but it was also a deeper feeling. A betrayal, really.
I’m a proud Californian. A proud Californian. I believe in what we do and who we are. I believe our diversity strengthens us. Sure, I roll my eyes at Hollywood shenanigans and Orange County conservatives, but I bask in the glory of San Francisco politics and Silicon Valley innovations.
I love living in a progressive state, so when Prop. 8 passed, I felt like I was punched in the gut. I felt for the first time that fear was driving my state - not educated and open-minded reasoning.
So today is a day for redemption. A day when I stop looking at other states making progress while mine stays stagnant. A day when the 5-year fight has paid off. A day when I can again, be proud of my state.
A day when my state is on the right side of history in this battle.
It’s a great day to be a Californian.
It was a really dark blemish on my beloved blue state.
If you’re “not all like that”, please call out the people in your particular group or movement who are just like that, rather than snapping at the people who do it for you.
If you have the energy to spend chewing out people who have been victimized by your group directly or indirectly, you should spend it on fixing that shit, or acknowledge that you yourself are probably just like that.
OK now I’m going to bed for realz
